The Virginia Historical Society seeks a qualified candidate for the position of Manager of Digital Engagement. This individual serves as a part of the Marketing & Communications Division, reports directly to the Vice President for Marketing & Communications, and is responsible for managing the organization’s digital presence.
The Manager of Digital Engagement’s primary duties will include creating and executing marketing plans for digital properties including the VHS website, social media accounts, and email campaigns. The ideal candidate will be proactive in recommending strategies to improve awareness and engagement and will create a best-in-class online experience for visitors.
The selected candidate will also have responsibility for executing marketing campaigns and should show initiative in analyzing results to inform recommendations for future strategies. The candidate will be a critical player in a major redesign of the website and should be able to select and manage external vendors as part of this process.
The Manager of Digital Engagement will:
track and report on marketing performances;
develop, implement, and evaluate results of A/B tests;
partner with internal and external graphic designers and curators to create content for digital channels;
make recommendations on targeting and segmentation strategies to reach specific audiences and increase visits to VHS properties;
increase site traffic using a variety of tools including Google AdWords/SEM and SEO optimization;
manage upcoming redesign of website focusing on improving usability and design to increase conversion;
update and maintain content on website and blog; and
assist with review of current systems and make recommendations on improvements.
Experience should include digital and social analytics (including Google Analytics), demonstrated proficiency in HTML5 and CSS, knowledge of current trends in accessibility and CX standards, ability to create or edit graphics for digital media, experience in email marketing and social media, including targeting and segmentation, strong understanding of online marketing concepts and best practices, ability to establish clear goals and enthusiastic desire to meet them, excellent communication skills and willingness to collaborate with team members, ability to prioritize and thoughtfully plan work activities combined with a willingness to adapt and flex to changing needs.
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Computer Science, or related experience; graphic design, photography, or videography experience; and an authentic interest in the mission and work of the VHS.
