Position: The Virginia Historical Society seeks a qualified candidate for the position of project cataloging/digital librarian for a major, grant-funded collections cataloging and digitization project. The position primarily involves the cataloging of materials relating to the American Civil War and its aftermath, and includes work with books, pamphlets, broadsides, Confederate imprints, and related materials. Duties include original and copy-cataloging of assigned collections under the direction of project supervisory staff; production of USMARC descriptive records; basic preservation care; selection of items for digital imaging and the creation of digital images and associated metadata; and related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or graduate degree combined with pertinent experience; familiarity with basic office-related computer programs and Internet search engines; minimum of two-year’s experience in library cataloging work; and familiarity with published and online sources of Virginia and American history, with knowledge of American Civil War historical resources preferred.
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience, with a full benefits package. No relocation expenses are covered.
Availability: This is a temporary position for a long-term project and will be open until filled.
